Ariana Vincent’s Acceptance Speech for the AFMTE Award

I am honored to be recognized by my peers for my work as an educator. Receiving this award is significant in the evolution of my teaching career, a profession that has already awarded me with so many wonderful experiences from simply being a part of the massage community. I am grateful for the AFMTE for supporting me with this award and supporting excellence in the education of the massage therapy community.

It is an honor for me to be here with you all today at the 2015 Alliance for Massage Therapy Educational Congress. I am grateful to be in the community of friends, colleagues and kindred spirits. I would especially like to thank Michael McIver for believing in me from the beginning. I am proud to be in the company of AFMTE luminaries.

I would like to thank everyone involved in helping me achieve this very significant pinnacle in my career as the AFMTE C.E. Provider of the Year: my family, my wonderful team at the Ariana Institute, my colleagues, friends, mentors, clients, and students.

I am very humbled to be in such illustrious company. Being honored as the AFMTE C.E. Provider of the Year is something I never even imagined possible back when I first began my massage career in 1982 at the Family Wellness and Resource Center. There I began training to become a professional massage therapist, and as a result, I was fortunate to have become part of the first group of massage therapists to be licensed in Texas in 1986.

In 1999 I obtained my certification as a massage therapy instructor and continuing education provider and began forming the Ariana Institute for Wellness Education. I teach at clinics, spas and schools and welcome additional teaching opportunities.

The changes that I have seen during the course of my career have been remarkable. We as a society are deepening our respect and appreciation for massage therapy. I am grateful to have found my vehicle for serving the world in the massage therapy profession.

The needs and resources of students continue to increase, so the standards of teaching must continue to elevate with them. Students can be willing to learn, but they can only reflect the quality of education that they are given. So as educators we must emit the highest standard of education we provide if we are to see that same standard reflected in our students.

It wasn’t just my talents as a massage therapy educator that made success possible for me and for the Ariana Institute; I wouldn’t be standing here in front of you today without the support of many people.

I would like to thank everyone who made this moment possible for me. I acknowledge the countless everyday contributions those who have supported me have made on my behalf and on behalf of the Ariana Institute. I am grateful for the contributions that each and every one of you have made to the ongoing evolution of the massage profession.

Looking back on my career, I attribute much of my success to being resilient, surrounding myself with supportive motivational peers, and keeping a positive perspective.

Thank you all again and again. Being honored as the AFMTE C. E. Provider of the Year means the world to me. Your kindness is deeply appreciated and will long be remembered. I accept this award for each and every one of us; we all shine with the inner light as a collective whole.

I leave you with my favorite quote by Pericles, that I shared with Ryan Hoyme years ago when he interviewed me on his Massage Nerd show. Thank you, Ryan. “What you leave behind is not what is engraved in stone monuments, but what is woven into the lives of others.” What AFMTE has woven into the fabric of the massage community is more precious than any stone monument that could ever exist. I sincerely thank you all.
