The origin of Reiki can be traced back thousands of years ago to the ancient cultures of India, Tibet, China, and Japan. This technique was rediscovered in the mid-1800s by Dr. Mikao Usui of Japan.
Dr. Usui, Japanese theologian, and a missionary, was the founder of the Usui System of Reiki. He was born August 15, 1865, in the village of Yago in the Yamagata district of Gifu prefecture, Japan. - How does deep tissue therapy work? When there is chronic muscle tension, pain, strain, spasm, injury, or postural problems there are usually adhesions (bands of painful, rigid tissue) in muscles, tendons, and ligaments. Adhesions can block circulation and cause pain, limited movement, and inflammation. Deep tissue massage works by physically breaking down these adhesions to relieve pain, restore normal movement, and improve postural alignment.
